Sorry everyone! I’ve been out of commission longer than I expected after my surgery. I’m doing much better and I’ll be getting back in the swing of things over the weekend by writing up some new posts. Currently, I’ve got a few reviews and several tutorials in the works. Some really exciting stuff. I hope you’ll bear with me a few more days. Have a great weekend!

So chances are good Im currently in a recovery room right now at the hospital, if all went well I will be homeward bound in a couple of hours. (Like I said, nothing too serious, and the procedure is being done laproscopically) In light of this I thought I would post some of my favorite Photography and Digital Dark Room related posts from around the net and other bloggers. Wish me luck and enjoy the reading after the jump … Read more…

Recently I read a Photography blog that advocated never doing anything for free as a photographer. That doing so, even for family, set a precedence in which you will probably be exploited in the future. While there is some truth to this point, there is also a lot of opportunity to be had by firing your shutter for no charge. More after the jump. Read more…

There are two things that separate a good picture from a great picture. Light and Composition. While lighting is something that requires gear of varying types, composition is something that everyone with a camera, be it camera phone or Pro D-SLR, can gain skill in with just a little attention to detail. I know I promised a long post with all sorts of info on the Rule of Thirds, but I found out I need surgery so I’ve been a little distracted. Nothing major, but I plan on trying to write up several posts for the time Im out of commission.
So, instead of leaving you high and dry this weekend, I thought I would post a fun tutorial on a type of time lapse trick photography. Ever wanted to hold fire in your hands? Well, now you can … sort of. The effect is pretty simple and Ill explain it after the jump! Read more…

Today’s tip is what I like to call a “Shoot Book.” This is basically a small notebook that I keep in my shoot bag, or with me when Im traveling without camera gear. In my case I use a pocket-sized ruled Moleskine. I use this book for ideas I have, studio shot plans or other important information I need to jot down in an instant. For the studio shot ideas I try to visualize the shot and sketch up the poses with “wire frame” people. Then on the same page I like to sketch up possible lighting diagrams. Dust … composed usually of dead skin cells or pollen, it is always around us. We breath it in every day, we dust it from our furniture, and even take medicine for the allergies it may cause. Lightroom is a pretty swank software suite. The iPhone is the ultimate phone/PDA/iPod/Internet Device/everything. The process is easier than you might think … Hit the Jump for More. Read more…

I know everyone reading this has seen a Glamour shot. If by some chance you have not, then you are obviously like 5 years old. They were huge in the 90′s, and I have even seen some small boutique studios are currently offering them again. So you might ask yourself, do I need expensive lenses, maybe a Lens baby or some other old trick to achieve that dreamy feel? Not at all! Hit the jump to achieve the same effect in less than 60 seconds. Read more…
